What Makes You Excited About Life? What Are Your Passions?

Self Love February, Day 24:

This is important – more important than you may realize. If you’re not living your life in alignment with your passions, chances are, you feel dissatisfied with your life. I discussed this in a blog post about 6 months ago talking about core values.

Your passions make you excited about life; it’s your reason to get up and work so hard day to day. One thing my father-in-laws wife said one time years ago is that if you don’t love what you do, do something that allows you to do what you love.

Basically, if you’re doing a job you hate that doesn’t allow you to do what you love, then what’s the point? However, if you’re doing a job you hate, that allows you to go to school part-time in the evenings, that will give you the opportunity to do what you love in the future, then that would be worth it.

I know it’s not that simple; that things are more complex than that, but that’s why it’s important to identify your passions.

My dad did a horrible job for about 15 years or so – working graveyard 6 nights a week, every holiday except Xmas day – for the love of his family; his passion was us. He never allowed that job or being “too tired” from spending time with us. We still ate dinner as a family every single night. We still made day trips on weekends, even if mom drove so he could sleep in the car. He still attended our extracurricular activities. He was still present in our lives.

One way I was living out of alignment was with not living according to my passions. For me, my 3 main passions are health and wellness, travel, and the arts. My husband and I are planning a trip – especially as we now have passports. My health and wellness are a priority right now. And the arts always play a big part in my life. And with the arts, I include all mediums of creating – music, cuisine, dance, painting, drawing, writing, etc.

All I know is that when I live in alignment with my passions, I’m happier!

What about you? What are you most passionate about? What makes you excited about life? Your children/family? Animals/environment? Disability rights? LGBTQ+ rights? Sustainability?
